RUSSELL — Audie Lee Karst, 58, of Russell, formerly of Great Bend and Lake of the Ozarks, Mo., departed this life Nov. 15, 2012 at Russell Regional Hospital after a courageous, year-long battle with cancer.
Audie, son of Gene Karst of Russell and Janice Jack, Lake of the Ozarks, was born Sept. 7, 1954, at Ellsworth. He attended Russell schools.
He married Carolian Hupfer on Oct. 31, 1976. They were later divorced. Two children were born to this union, a son Jason who died a few minutes after birth, and a daughter Ashley. He spent most of his life farming for his paternal grandparents, Ted and Rebecca Karst of Russell. He owned and operated several trucking businesses, and managed several auto racing tracks. He owned and operated Karst Landscaping and Lawn Service in Great Bend.
He is survived by his companion, Carolian; a daughter, Ashley Karst, Aurora, Colo.; his father Gene Karst; his mother Janice Jack; and brothers Steve Karst, Russell, and Darrell Karst, Houston, Texas.
Preceding him in death was a son, Jason; his stepmother, Vera Karst; his stepfather, Walter Jack; his paternal grandparents, Ted and Rebecca Karst; and his maternal grandparents, Sam and Dolores Langhofer.
A celebration of Audie’s Life is scheduled at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating. Burial will follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary with the family present from 6 to 7 p.m. A Memorial has been established as the Audie Karst Memorial Fund.
