GREAT BEND — Dolores M. Newell, 76, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2014 at her residence in Great Bend.
She was born Sept. 30, 1937 in Kingman County, the daughter of John P. and Teresa L. (Meyeres) Prosser.
Dolores has been a Barton County resident since 1965 coming from Lyons. She was a homemaker and a bookkeeper for the Barton County Extension Office, retiring in 2012. She worked part-time for Kustom Floor Designs and United Way of Central Kansas. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Altar Society, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, numerous card clubs, and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Dolores married Mitchell Patrick “Mitch” Newell on Jan. 12, 1963 at Great Bend. He preceded her in death on Jan. 24, 1998.
Survivors include a son, Mark Newell and wife Twila, Wichita; a daughter, Paula Mauler and husband Curt, Great Bend; three brothers, Don Prosser and wife Lorraine, Pratt; Les Prosser, Great Bend, and Charles Prosser, Houston, Texas; five grandchildren, Brittney Newell, Brandon Newell, Blake Newell, Sarah Mauler, and Jenna Mauler, and a great-grandchild, Brynlee Newell.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend with Father Don Bedore as celebrant. Burial will follow at Great Bend Cemetery. Altar Society rosary will be held at 4 p.m. and a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m., both on Monday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
