GREAT BEND - Dorothy M. Campbell, 100, passed away July 7, 2018, at Cherry Village Nursing Home, Great Bend. She was born November 7, 1917, at Emporia, to Clarence and Lizzie (Schallehn) Whitaker. Dorothy married Harold “Bud” Campbell August 14, 1948, at Kansas City, Kan. He died August 17, 2009.
A long-time resident of Great Bend, coming from Emporia, Americus and Newton, Dorothy was an elementary school teacher in Great Bend, Lyon County and Emporia. Her passion and love for teaching was demonstrated for a total of thirty-eight years. Dorothy graduated from Emporia High School and received a BS degree in Education from Emporia State University. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, NEA, KNEA, Barton County Retired Teachers and Northwest FCE.
Dorothy was preceded in death by husband, Harold “Bud” Campbell; two sons, Todd and Brad; brother, Alvin Whitaker; and sister, Blanche Key.
Graveside services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at Great Bend Cemetery, with The Reverend Jon Brudvig presiding. Memorials are suggested to the Dorothy Campbell Memorial Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
