Douglas Jon Mead, Sr., 81, Great Bend, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at Azria Health Woodhaven, Great Bend, Kansas.

Douglas was born December 6, 1941, in Portland, Oregon, the son of Carrell J. and Murel M. (Richard) Mead. He was a lifelong resident of Barton County, Kansas. A 1959 graduate of Pawnee Rock School, Pawnee Rock, Kansas, he was a driller in the oil industry before his retirement in 2002.

He enjoyed his time driving semi, traveling the country. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include: one son, Doug Mead, Jr., Cornelia, Georgia; two daughters, Toni Guyton, Ellinwood, Kansas, and Sheri Mead, Hays, Kansas; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one brother, Richard Mead, Larned, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Beverly Moore.

No services are planned at this time. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Claflin, Kansas.
