Edna Manke 1912- 2011

LYONS — Edna Manke, 98, died Jan. 15 at the Rice County District Hospital in Lyons. Born Jan. 22, 1912, in rural Ellinwood, she was the daughter of William A. and Henrietta Lantermann Koch. A resident of Lyons since 1967, formerly of Bushton, she was a homemaker. She graduated from Ellinwood High School in 1928. On June 12, 1929, she married Leo F. Manke in Ellinwood. He died September 27, 1994.

Mrs. Manke was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church and the Sorosis Club, both in Lyons; the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League; and a Red Cross Volunteer for 20 years.

Survivors include two sons, Dwayne Manke of Ellinwood and Gilbert Manke of Hutchinson; a daughter, Marceleen Margheim of Derby; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Paul Margheim; a great-granddaughter, Jennifer McColey; and three sisters, Lillie Manke, Clara Bryant and Mildred Ahrens.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Lloyd Sprick officiating. Burial will be at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery. Friends may visit from 2-7 p.m. today at Birzer Funeral Home in Lyons, with family present. Memorials are suggested to the Lutheran Hour or Lyons Good Samaritan Center, all in care of the funeral home.
