Elinor May Bryant Hiss 1936 - 2012

ELLINWOOD — Elinor May Bryant Hiss, 76, died Nov. 14 at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. Born March 24, 1936, at Great Bend, she was the daughter of Harry and Clara Koch Bryant. In 1954 she graduated from Ellinwood High School. On Aug. 26, 1956, she married Frederick (Lawrence) Hiss at Ellinwood. He died on July 25, 2011. A lifetime resident of Barton and Rice counties, she was employed at the Barton County Extension Office from 1954-1957, was secretary for Grace Lutheran Church from 1972-1980, worked in the Rice County Appraisers Office from 1980-2002;  and was a Drive my Car school bus driver for USD 405 from 1970-1975 and 1977-1979.
Mrs. Hiss was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and LWML in Ellinwood.
Survivors include a son, Richard (Sharon) Hiss, of Great Bend; a daughter, DeAnn (Alan) Hauser, of Humboldt; three granddaughters and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Bryan Hiss.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ellinwood with the Rev. Jeff Frakes officiating. Burial will be at the Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery in Ellinwood. Friends may visit from 1-8 p.m. Friday, with family receiving friends from 6-7 p.m., at Kimple Funeral Home in Ellinwood. Memorials are suggested to St. John Lutheran Church, Sunflower Diversified Services or Relay for Life Cancer Fund.
