Hazel Margaret Fry, 89, of Ellinwood, died January 1, 2021, at her home. She was born March 18, 1931, in Hutchinson, to Orville and Alice (Barnes) Preston.
Hazel graduated from Great Bend High School in 1949. She worked as a drug and alcohol counselor for Larned State Hospital, eventually becoming the director of the program. Hazel loved to take part in the woodworking activities at Delos V. Smith Senior Center.
She is survived by: sons, Harold, and Brian Fry, Ellinwood; brothers, William (Betty) Preston, Hutchinson, Richard (Betty) Preston, Virginia Beach, Virginia, and David (Shirley) Preston, San Antonio, Texas; granddaughter, Brandy Pepperman, Great Bend; grandsons, Brian, and Jaxton Fry, Great Bend; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Hazel was preceded in death by: her parents; sisters, Joetta Isaacs, Waneeta Marshall, Alta Mae Altizer, and Mary Goddard; and daughter-in-law, Erlinda Fry.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, January 9, 2021, at Elliott Mortuary. A private family burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday at Elliott Mortuary.
