Helen J. Suchy, 89, died Aug. 24 at Cherry Village Nursing Home in Great Bend. Born June 9, 1924 in Pawnee County, she was the daughter of Emil and Amiela (Vozoboj) Vsetecka. On Dec. 29, 1943 she married Alvie J. Suchy in Olmitz. He died on Nov. 14, 1986. She was a resident of Great Bend since 1943, coming from Timken. She enjoyed all aspects of homemaking, including sewing, crocheting, baking, and gardening. She also enjoyed her pet dogs and rock hunting and collecting.
Mrs. Suchy was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and Altar Society, in Great Bend.
Survivors include one daughter, Carol Delaney and husband Jerry, of Wichita; two brothers, William Vsetecka of Great Bend, and Leonard Vsetecka of Brunswick, Ga.; three grandchildren, Randy Mitchell and wife Konni and Tammy Mitchell, all of Ellinwood, and Darrell Mitchell and wife Michelle of Great Bend; eight great-grandchildren, Hannah Ryan, Aaron Mitchell, Ryan Motes, Brandon Goodenough, Tristan Mitchell, Tori Mitchell, Justin Dwinell, and Katelyn Lefebvre; and three great-great-grandchildren, Hunter Ryan, Zoey Ryan, and Jacie Goodenough. She was preceded in death by one infant brother, Edward; one stillborn sister; and five brothers, Emil Vsetecka, Edward Vsetecka, Joseph Vsetecka, B.F. Vsetecka, and Victor Vsetecka.
Altar Society Rosary will be held at 4 p.m. and a Vigil Service be held at 7 p.m., both on Wednesday at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend. Burial will be at the Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may visit from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association, in care of the funeral home.
