OTIS — Ivan E. Worthen, 91, died Dec. 5 at Cloud County Health Center in Concordia. Born Nov. 23, 1921 in Vinson, Okla., he was the son of Jeffie Earl and Velma Clara (Akers) Worthen. On Feb. 15, 1948 he married Imogene Carpenter in Mangum, Okla. She died on Jan. 3, 1999. A resident of Concordia since 2007, coming from Otis, he was employed at the helium plant, sold insurance for Farm Bureau and finished at the Otis State Bank as a cashier and retired as Senior Vice president.
Mr. Worthen was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Lions Club, where he was a three term president, Otis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3147, American Legion and former member of the Masonic Lodge in LaCrosse. He was a former Boy Scout leader.
Survivors include two sons, Gregory (Greg) Worthen and wife Arlinda, of Concordia, and Lane Worthen and wife Susan, of McKinney, Texas; one daughter, Mary Karen Gregg of Wichita; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Thomas Gregg; and two brothers, Jack Worthen and Charles Worthen.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Otis with the Rev. David Fabarez officiating. Burial will be at the Otis Methodist Cemetery with military rites by the United States Navy. Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m., with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington and from 1 p.m. to service time on Saturday, at the United Methodist Church in Otis.
