HOISINGTON — Jack A. Whitt, 92, died Jan. 15 at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita. He was born Jan. 25, 1921 at Nickerson, the son of Gaylord “Jack” and Grace Whitt.
Jack was a lifelong Hoisington resident and worked for many years at Kansas Brick and Tile. He later worked for Hometown Appliance in Great Bend until his retirement. Jack served his country in the United States Army during World War II where he was stationed in the Philippines. He was a charter member of the VFW in Hoisington where he served as commander and any other position he was asked to fill.
Jack married Rita Arlene Hamm on March 29, 1941 at Nickerson. She preceded him in death on June 18, 1995.
Survivors include two sons: Gerald “Jerry” Whitt of Hutchinson and Ronnie Whitt of Hoisington; one daughter Sharon VerHoven of Buffalo, N.Y.; five grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21 at Hoisington Cemetery with Reverend Dick Ogle officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may call Monday, Jan. 20 from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Nicholson-Ricke funeral Home in Hoisington. Memorials are suggested to Kans for Kids in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.
