Jannifer L. DeWald, age 68 years, of Great Bend, Kan. passed away on Wednesday evening, July 27, 2022 at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital in Larned, Kan. “Jan” was born on June 24, 1954 at WaKeeney, Kan. to Marvin and Anita (Waggoner) Middleton. She graduated from Hill City High School at Hill City, Kan. in 1972 and was united in marriage to Cory D. DeWald on Aug. 21, 1982 at Great Bend, Kan. Jan loved crafting and at craft shows was known as the “Kansas Shirt Lady.” In earlier years she was a Tupperware Representative, and was part of the group that formed the Christmas Craft Mall Co-Op in Great Bend and took part in it every year since. She also worked in the office at Dee Dove Chevrolet in Great Bend (and after it became part of the Marmie Motors Group) for several years. Slot machines, bingo, and Elvis were a few of Jan’s passions.

Jan is survived by her husband, Cory D. DeWald of Great Bend, Kan.; two grandchildren, Gage DeWald (and fiance’ Jasmine Reyes) and Hunter Gregg; one great-granddaughter Paisley DeWald; her mother Anita Middleton of Hill City, Kan.; two brothers, Lorne (and Diana) Middleton of Gove, Kan. and Dorne (and Pam) Middleton of Hoisington, Kan.; three sisters, Gwenna Payne of Gurley, Neb., Gina (and Brian) Oberle of Odin, Kan. and Paula (and Ken) Haughton of Salina, Kan.; nieces and nephews. Jan was preceded in death by her father; and her daughter Jill J. (DeWald) Gregg in Aug. of 2018.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 1, 2022 at Charter Funerals in Great Bend, Kan. with Chaplain Jeff Owen officiating. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, 2022 at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Great Bend City Cemetery North in Great Bend, Kan. Memorial Contributions may be directed in care of the family for later designation.
