GREAT BEND — Jesus L. Torrez, 85, died Oct. 25, 2011 at the Hays Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 23, 1925 in Hoisington, the son of Pablo Martinez and Canderlaria (Lopes) Torrez.
On March 24, 1949, he married Lucy Mancha in Great Bend. They later divorced. He then married Wanda Ritter. She survives. A resident of Great Bend, coming from Albert and Dodge City, he worked as a railroad laborer for the Santa Fe Railroad. He enjoyed gardening as a hobby.
Survivors include, his wife, Wanda Ritter, Great Bend; two sons, Roger Torrez and wife Joy, Great Bend; and Joseph Torrez and wife Darlene, Albert; a daughter, Loretta Trapp, Great Bend; and eight grandchildren, Joshua Cape, Laurie Kurtz, Jessica Davis, Michael Torrez, Kelsey Torrez, Vanessa Torrez, Abby Prescott, and Corey Torrez. He was preceded in death by six brothers, John, Fidel, Salvador, Tony, Juan and Tommy Torrez; and by an infant sister, Lupe Torrez.
Funeral services are scheduled at 2 p.m. Friday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home with Father Ultan Murphy officiating. Burial will be at the St. John Church Cemetery in Hoisington. Friends may visit from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., and from 9 a.m. to service time on Friday, all at the funeral home.
