Jo (Addie Josephine) Slough 1920 - 2019

ELLINWOOD — Jo (Addie Josephine) Slough, 99, passed away on Oct. 27, 2019 at Countryplace Senior Living in Ellinwood, Kan. Born in Dunlap, Kan. on Oct. 12, 1920 she was the daughter of Allen and Mable (Wolfram) Whitaker. She grew up in Dunlap, Kan. graduating from high school in 1938 and later attending Kansas State University where she earned a B.S. in music education in 1947. She married Dr. E.E. (Gene) Slough on June 20, 1948 in Dunlap, Kan. He died May 21, 2006. 

Jo accepted a position teaching vocal music at Ellinwood High School and also had private piano lessons in her home. She also stayed busy as a Rotary Club cook, choir director at the church and shared her gift of music with clubs and often played at Woodhaven Nursing Home. 

Memberships include United Methodist Church where she played piano and organ for 40+ years, Ellinwood Heritage Club, Art Club, UMW Organization where she held several offices, and cards clubs.    

Survivors include daughters, Marla (Stan) Isern, Ellinwood, Kan. and Katrina (Marvin) Penka, Redwing, Kan.; grandchildren, Mindy (Scott) Cure, Hanston, Kan., Shane (Nickie), Ellinwood, Kan., and Mariah (Dustin) Lee, Hanston, Kan.; seven great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two brothers, Melvin and Kenneth.  

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 30th at the United Methodist Church in Ellinwood, Kan. with Pastor Tom Reazin officiating. Burial will follow at Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery in Ellinwood, Kan. Visitation will be Tuesday, Oct. 29th at Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood from 1-7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to United Methodist Church or Ellinwood Heritage Club in care of Minnis Chapel, PO Box 246, Ellinwood, KS 67526.
