HOISINGTON — Larry M. Manweiler, 82, died Wednesday, September 25 at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. He was born July 18, 1931, at Hoisington, the son of August and Violet (Slade) Manweiler.
Larry, a lifelong Hoisington resident, was a retired Chevrolet dealer with Manweiler Chevrolet. He was an active member of Concordia Lutheran Church as president, treasurer, elder, choir, and Bible teacher. Larry was elected to the Kansas Zone Evangelical Council of the Missouri-Synod Lutheran Church and was on the Zone “Alive in Christ” committee. He counseled many young people on how to live within a budget and their need for their Savior. He was very active in the community serving as president of Kiwanis, president of the Chamber of Commerce, and ran for city council. Larry was an Eagle Scout and was honored as the oldest living Eagle Scout in Hoisington in 2012. He also served on many Chevrolet boards.
On June 1, 1952, he married Ruby Nuss in the Trinity Lutheran Church at Great Bend.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby, of the home; four children, Gene Manweiler and wife Paula of Hoisington, Kathryn Smith and husband Martin of Minocqua, Wis., Diana Hilburn and husband Steve of Goddard, and Jerry Manweiler and wife Julie of Lawrence; two brothers, Gary Manweiler and wife Raynetta of Hot Springs, Ark.; and Robert Manweiler and wife Rachel of Nathrop, Colo.; brother-in-law Thomas Benge of Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and seven step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Sonya Benge.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 30, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Hoisington, with the Rev. Mark Lovett officiating. Burial will follow at Hoisington Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Sunday,  with a prayer service beginning at 7 p.m., at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, Hoisington. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Concordia Lutheran Church in care of the funeral home.
