LeRoy H. Wichman

FORT COLLINS, Colo. — LeRoy H. Wichman suffered a cardiac arrest on the morning of Jan. 30, 2012.
He was the devoted and dedicated father to Aaron and Moira Wichman, and loving husband of Mary Frances Wichman.
LeRoy was the seventh of eight children born to John and Bernadina Wichman in Seneca. He studied at Emporia State University and was awarded BA and MS degrees in Education. He then moved on to one of his passions — exploring the world and other cultures, which he did as a teacher of the children of military personnel in Libya, Japan and Germany. It was while teaching in Japan in 1970 that he met and married the love of his life, Mary Frances Dale. In their free time, they loved to travel.
His career spanned over 40 years, teaching dependents of military personnel overseas. LeRoy retired in 2002 and returned to the United States, making Fort Collins, Colo. his new home.
In retirement, he devoted much time to teaching foreign students and foreign priests English. He volunteered with Catholic Charities and was active in the Knights of Columbus. Leroy was a man who lived his faith in service to others.
LeRoy is survived by his wife, Mary Frances; a son, Aaron, and wife Sarah Wichman, Bowling Green, Ky.; and their daughter Breanne; his daughter, Moira Wichman, Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Marilyn Lierz, Kansas City, Mo.; and Araline Spielman, Muscotah; and a brother, Kenneth Wichman, Shawnee.
LeRoy was preceded in death by siblings, Adelaide Schmitz, Emmett and Ralph Wichman, and Evelyn Nash.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mountain and Howes Street, Fort Collins, Colo. He will be laid to rest at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6 at the Great Bend Cemetery.
Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 5450 S. Lemay Avenue, Fort Collins, Colo. Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
His family requests that any memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
