Linda Sue Martin, 66, passed away on Jan. 16, 2023, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington, Kan. She was born on Nov. 9, 1956, in Plainville, Kan. to Darrell and Shirley (Campbell) Hays. On June 7, 1986, she married Phillip Martin at St. Fidelis Church in Victoria, Kan. He survives.
A Great Bend resident for 36 years, Linda worked as a speech pathologist for USD 428 and Barton County Special Services, prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish attending St. Rose, Daughters of Isabella, and the Kansas Retired Teachers Association. Linda enjoyed spending time on social media and being with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a son, Jacob Martin of Kansas City, Mo.; a daughter, Holly Bowyer (Brent Schartz) of Ellinwood, Kan.; three grandchildren, Alexander “A.J.” Bowyer, Alvin Bowyer, and Ashylynn Gray; a brother, Terry Hays, of Natoma, Kan.; and two sisters, Marsha Erickson (David) of Wellington, Kan. and Stephanie Massier of Palco, Kan. She is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Darrell “Hank” Hays, Jr.; and a sister, Sheri Hays.
Visitation will take place from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, 2023, with Altar Society rosary at 4 p.m., family receiving guests from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and a vigil service at 7 p.m. with Daughters of Isabella rosary, all at Bryant Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 20, 2023, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, with Father Prakash Kola presiding. A private family internment will take place at a later time. Memorials have been designated to the Grandchildren’s Education Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
