FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. — Norma Christine Ochs, age 93, passed away Dec. 11 in Fernandina Beach, Fla. She made her home in Fernandina Beach and Lawrence, Kan. Norma was born in Eureka, Kan. on Dec. 14, 1924 to Otis Ackerman and Gladys Love Ackerman. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Lorenz Ochs and her daughter Jeanie Ochs. 

Norma graduated from Eureka High School in 1944 and enlisted in the Army Nurse Cadet Corps. After three years of nurse’s training at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, she was certified as a Registered Nurse, and became one of the first RNs at the Hoisington hospital. She worked for 30 years as an RN in Great Bend at St. Rose Hospital, Central Kansas Medical, and Great Bend Manor Nursing Home.

Norma will be remembered by the Midwestern Ochs family and her friends in Florida, Kansas, and elsewhere. She’ll be greatly missed by her sons and daughters-in-law, Steve (Judy) in Fernandina Beach and Mitchell (Jeanette) in Great Bend. Also by her grandchildren, Philip Ochs in Washington, DC, Cliffie Ochs (and husband Derrick Ives) in Fairview, Okla., Rebecca Ochs (and husband Shawn Probst) in Great Bend, Andrew Ochs in Great Bend, and four great-grandchildren, Darrin, Brady, Riley and Presley Ives in Fairview.   

A private, religious observance of Norma’s life will be held in Lawrence on Friday, Dec. 18. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Lawrence. Condolences may be sent to Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, 601 Indiana St., Lawrence or emailed to https://Rumsey-Yost.com/obituaries.
