HOLYROOD — Norma Ruth Schaefer, 88, passed away Jan. 25 at the Good Samaritan Society in Ellsworth. She was born June 10, 1926, in Lincoln, to Anna E. (Bahls) and Neils M. Pedersen.
Norma married Delbert L. Bisterfeldt on Feb. 19, 1945 in Salina, KS. She married Robert E. Shaefer on Dec. 16, 1972 in Holyrood, KS. Robert preceded her in death in 2007.
Norma lived in Holyrood since 1954. She retired in 1962 as a waitress from Chris’s Big L in Holyrood and then again in 1980 from cleaning the Holyrood Post Office. She was also a homemaker.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 200, The St. Peter Ladies Quilting Bee and the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Holyrood. Norma’s interests included crafts, crocheting, sewing, having coffee at C&V’s, working, and search books. She enjoyed family Christmas gatherings.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; daughter, Joyce Gunning; sisters: Olga Peterman, Velma Comfort, Linda Johnson, Della Huhl and Elda Stroede; and brothers: Pete Pedersen, Melvin Pedersen and Ernie Pedersen. She is survived by her sons: Warren Bisterfeldt, Mike Schaefer and Danny Schaefer; daughters: Carla Lamb, Pam Fleming and Ellen Roehrman; 17 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 1-8 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 28, at Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth, with the family present from 6-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Holyrood, with burial to follow at the St. Peter Lutheran Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church in Holyrood, Holyrood American Legion Post 200, or St. Peter Ladies Auxiliary, in care of the funeral home.
