HUTCHINSON — Rolland J. "Curly" Maynard, 84, a loving father and grandfather, went to his Father’s Home on Feb. 12 from Hospice House in Hutchinson. Born March 24, 1926, in Colby, he was the son of George and Avis Gaswint Maynard. He had attended Great Bend High School. A resident of Hutchinson, he had previously lived in Great Bend and Mesa, Ariz. He had owned A&W Root Beer Drive-in and had worked for Holiday Rambler Travel Trailer as a travel coordinator. Her was a carpenter and volunteer firefighter in Great Bend. On Sept. 3, 1946, he married Goldie Mae Cunningham in Wichita. She died April 29, 1999.

Mr. Maynard was a Seaman 1st Class in the United States Navy, where he received his purple heart. He was a member of Westside Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Carma Gray and husband Don of Hutchinson; a son, Danny Maynard and wife Ann of Fruita, Colo.; a brother, Kenneth Maynard and Carolyn, of Sarasota, Fla.; three sisters, Bonnie Rasor and husband Dean of Hutchinson, Patsy Oliver and husband Guy, Apache Junction, Ariz., and Betty Woods, Lake Orvil, Calif.; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Gene Maynard.

Cremation is planned. Private family services will be held at a later date with Chaplain Bob Phipps officiating. Inurnment will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix, Ariz. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Reno County, in care of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory in Hutchinson.
