ELLINWOOD – Stephen Allen Whelan, 52, died Feb. 14, 2011, at his Ellinwood home. He was born July 10, 1958, in Marshall, Texas, the son of Daniel E. and Jan Allen Whelan. He married Jodi Clawson Nov. 11, 1989, at Ellinwood. She survives.

He was an Ellinwood resident for over 30 years, having moved from Texas. He worked in oilfield sales for National Oilwell Supply Company and M&M Equipment, both of Great Bend. He was a graduate of Marshall High School and Tyler Junior College, Tyler, Texas, and attended the University of Texas.

Mr. Whelan was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and attended First Baptist Church, both of Ellinwood.

Survivors include: His wife of the home; one son, Brett Allen Whelan of the home; one brother, Daniel Whelan III of Tyler, Texas; mother-in-law, Carol Clawson of Ellinwood; three brothers-in-law, Kirk Clawson and his wife Barbara, Kyle Clawson and his wife Lori, and Sloan Clawson, all of Ellinwood; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law Larry Clawson.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, Ellinwood, with the Rev. David Wesner officiating. Burial will be at Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery, Ellinwood. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. today at Kimple Funeral Home in Ellinwood. Memorials are suggested to the Brett Whelan Education Fund, in care of the funeral home.
