Troy L. Byer, 59, passed away December 25, 2020, at Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita. He was born January 28, 1961, at Dodge City, to William and Sylvia Kay (Kaiser) Byer. He married Sandra S. Zajic on January 1, 2003, at Holyrood.
A Great Bend resident for most of his life, Troy worked for CUNA Mutual Retirement Solutions as an operations specialist. He was a member of Church of Christ, SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism), and a former boy scout leader.
Survivors include, his wife Sandy Byer of the home; four sons, Jack Byer of Austin, Tex., George Byer and wife Elaina of Great Bend, William Byer and wife Priya of Portland, Ore., and Bobby Oller and wife Sam of Larned; three daughters, Cheri Viles and husband Tim of Manhattan, Sonja Pope and husband Allen of Springfield, Mo., and Susan Leech and husband Christopher of Salina; a brother Von Byer of Austin, Tex.; two sisters, Vicki Caravalho of Bartlesville, Okla., and Carla Byer of Great Bend; and nine grandchildren, Taryn Viles, Caelie Viles, Sylvia Pope, Allora Pope, Easton Byer, Lucas Byer, Georgia Byer, Avelyn Leech, and Nora Byer.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday, January 1, 2021, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 2, 2021, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Pastor John Turner presiding. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Nekoma. Memorials have been designated to the American Heart Association, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
