GREAT BEND — William "Bill" Feist, 78, died Feb. 23 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. He was born May 2, 1932 near Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Barton County, the son of Conrad and Viola (Liebl) Feist.

He married Gladys Deines Sept. 21, 1956 at Hastings, Neb. He was a Claflin High School graduate, and retired as production superintendent for Oneok Oil, formerly Imperial Oil; and later worked for Pratt Well Service.

Mr. Feist was a Great Bend, Kansas resident since 1963 coming from Wakeeney.

He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church and former Knights of Columbus member. He loved animals and the outdoors, elk hunts, catching snapping turtles, and was known for riding "Jake" the ox and "Molla" the mule.

Survivors include his wife Gladys, of the home; one son: Rick Feist and wife Bev of Ponca City, Okla.; three daughters, Kim Dobratz and husband Steve of Great Bend; Roxanne Mayers of Great Bend; and Shelly Strube and husband Kent of Claflin; and eight grandchildren: Brittany Feist, Ali Feist, Shaun Dobratz, Matt Dobratz, Jason Mayers and wife Jayme, Janelle Mayers and companion Derek Riner, Jennifer Mayers-Lauer and husband Jesse, and Tanner Strube; and three great-grandchildren, Samantha Mayers, Alexandra Mayers, and Jordan Lauer

He was preceded in death by one brother, John J. "Jack" Feist; and two sisters, Jolene Hammeke and Norma Lee Berscheidt, and one son-in-law, Steve Mayers.

The vigil service will be at 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 25, 2011at Bryant Funeral Home. Thew Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend with Father Peter Fernandez officiating. Interment will be at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Ellinwood. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, February 25, 2011 at Bryant Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Golden Belt Humane Society or Sts. Peter and Paul Restoration Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home
