William. D. "Bill" Bisterfeldt, 79, of Great Bend, died Oct. 25 at Leisure Homestead in St. John. He was born Oct. 16, 1931, in Bison, the son of George Henry and Almeda Viola (Hutchins) Bisterfeldt. He was a lifelong resident of Great Bend. He married Frances M. Sohm on June 11, 1960, at Great Bend. He received his GED while serving in the United States Air Force. He was an Air Force veteran, serving during the Korean War. Mr. Bisterfeldt was a maintenance supervisor for USD 428 for many years before his retirement.
Mr. Bisterfeldt was a member of American Legion Post 180, Great Bend.
Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Clark of Houston, Texas, and Lisa Jacobs and her fiance, Steve Stegman, of Great Bend; a brother, Everett Bisterfeldt, of Wichita; two sisters, Betty Showalter of Great Bend and Donna Mayo of Olathe; and three grandchildren, Kortney Jacobs of Hays, Kendal Jacobs of Great Bend and Alexis Clark of Houston. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, on Aug. 30, 2004; one son, Kent E. Bisterfeldt, on Jan. 15, 1985; two brothers, Henry Bisterfeldt and Arlyn Bisterfeldt; and one sister, Ruth Johnson.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Charter Funerals, Great Bend, with Pastor Don Paden officiant. Interment will be at the La Crosse City Cemetery, La Crosse. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Charter Funerals. Memorials may be made to American Legion Post 180, Great Bend, or to the American Diabetes Association.
