The Barton Community College men’s basketball team slowly put more and more distance between themselves and Sterling JV on Tuesday night at Kirkman Activity Center.
The Cougars finished ahead 105-76 for their third straight win of the season.
With the game tied at 6-all, Barton went on an 11-2 run to start pulling away.
Rashawn Walker reeled in a rebound and scored on a putback to get things started, followed by a 3-pointer from Tyler Chambers.
Sterling’s Fayola Oyatayo made a pair of free throws to make it 11-8.
Barton’s Travell Robinson dropped in a jumper from the free-throw line, Isaac Williams layed in a bucket and Darius Gibson, who was the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Player of the Week, finished up the run with a putback.
After a 3-pointer from Sterling’s Fredd Richardson, who scored all 16 of his points in the first half, Barton’s Robinson and Williams responded with 3s of their own, making it 23-11 with 12:50 remaining in the first half.
A 9-0 run late in the first half, sparked by a 3-pointer from Trey Unrau and capped by a Gibson layup, helped the Cougars to a 51-40 lead at intermission.
Barton continued to add to its lead in the second half, breaking the century mark for the second time in a row after beating Raleigh’s Finest 108-75 on Saturday.
Gibson led seven players in double figures, scoring 17 points on 7 of 15 shooting. He completed the double-double with 10 rebounds, also a team-leading mark.
Tyler Corley and Williams each added 14 points for the Cougars.
Unrau scored all 12 of his points from 3-point range, going 4-for-7 from beyond the arc.
Josh Burdine and Deriece Parks both came off the bench to add 12 points apiece, and Robinson finished with 10 points, shooting 4-for-4 from the field.
