Barton to host basketball classic

The basketball season is here, and for Barton Community College, that means the Highland Hotel/Pizza Hut Basketball Classic.
The tournament, which boasts four men’s and four women’s games over two days, kicks off today at Kirkman Activity Center.
Things start with a women’s game between Cloud and McCook at 1 p.m.
The men of Butler and Raleigh’s Finest Prep square off at 3 p.m.
The Lady Cougars open the regular season at 5:30, challenging Arizona Western.
Barton’s women were picked to finish fourth in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference’s Western Division after finishing seventh last season with a 3-13 record. They were 13-17 overall.
The Lady Cougars play McCook on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
The Cougars take the floor for the first time this season against Fort Scott at 7:30.
Barton’s men were picked to finish third in the Jayhawk West, which is exactly where they finished last season with a 12-4 record.
The Cougars, who were 28-6 overall last season, will challenge Raleigh’s Finest Prep on Saturday at 7:30.
