It was the only junior varsity game on the schedule. It fell at a good time for the Barton women’s basketball team.
The Cougars just completed a pair of games against teams getting Top 30 points in the NJCAA poll. Barton went 1-1 in those games but lost the last time out. Next on the schedule is the start of the Jayhawk Conference season.
So getting a bit of a breather was needed for the Cougars. Barton took advantage with a 98-47 win over the Sterling JV Wednesday night at the Barton Gym.
The Cougars used a huge second half to put away the Warriors. Barton put 33 points on the board in third quarter and 29 more in the fourth for an impressive 62-25 second half advantage.
Barton put five players in double figures in the win – four of those off the bench. Great Bend freshman Lauren Welsch led the way with 14 points off the bench.
Miceala Jellison and Megan Jirak each added 12. Ashley Holler and Stormeigh Mattison both scored 11.
Barton will take a 3-1 record in Jayhawk Conference action. The Cougars will play the first of 26 straight conference games Saturday when they travel to the Community Building in Colby to take on the Trojans.
