PRATT — The Barton Community College men’s basketball team led the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Western Division game for more than 33 minutes.
Pratt took over wit 6:46 remaining, and held the lead as time ran out, beating the Cougars 71-59.
Things didn’t start out well for Barton, trailing from the outset.
With 5:48 remaining in the first half, Tyler Corley, who led the Cougars with 16 points, sank a pair of free throws to give Barton its first lead.
Barton held a precarious 29-26 lead at halftime.
The Cougars opened the lead up to seven points as Raheem Johnson tipped in a rebound to make it 50-43 with 8:32 remaining in the game.
Then things changed in a hurry as Pratt’s Rob Davis hit a pair of 3-pointers and Deshun Roberts sank a pair of free throws for an 8-0 run to take the Beavers’ first lead of the half.
That sparked the rally for Pratt as the Beavers made 5 of 6 free throws in the final minute to hold on to beat the Cougars.
Pratt shot 61.9 percent (13-for-21) from the field in the second half.
Isaac Williams added 15 points for Barton.
