It was a battle that came down to the final holes. It was a battle that took a sizzling 4-under par back nine to win.

But in the end it was Barton freshman Thitipong Homruen who came out on top. Homruen outshot teammate Jakkapat Horsangchai and two other golfers to win individual honors at the Coffeyville Invitational held in Bartlesville, Okla.

Homruen shot a 4-under par 32 on the backside to complete the 2-day, 36-hole event at 1-under 143. That was one stroke better than Horsangchai’s 144.

Close behind were Kevin Teems of Seminole State (Okla) at 145 and Jeremy Duhman of Kansas City Kansas at 146.

In addition the Cougars’ 303 total the second day was able to surpass KCK for a 607 2-day total and top team honors. KCK shot 608 and Seminole State finished third with a 610.

Barton also fielded a B team that shot 662 for ninth.

Barton started the final day six strokes out of first place. But the Cougars had three golfers shot 76 or better that final day to overtake KCK for the win.

Homruen opened with a 2-under par 70 the first day and finished with a 73 for his 143 total. Horsangchai shot 71-73 for his 144. Just outside the top 10 was sophomore Seokhun Kang. Kang opened with a 79 and finished with a 76 for a 155 total in 11th place – one stroke from a Top 10 effort.

Also playing for the Barton A was Christian VanNover and Calin Meyer. VanNover finished with an 84-81 – 165 and Meyer a 91-82—173.

The Cougars B team was led by Riley Kane and Jaron Kellerman. Kane was a great opening day with a 77 but shot 85 on the second day for a 162. Kellerman shot 84 to start then finished with an 80 for a 164 total.

Close behind was Koy Holden with an 85-84 – 169. Jacob Uhrmacher also had a consistent tournament with an 87-86 – 173. Dakota Soukup shot 81-95 – 176. Playing as an individual, Triston Titus finished with a 90-92 – 182.

The Cougars will be back on the course Monday when they travel to Junction City to play 36-hole event at Rolling Meadows hosted by KCK.
