McPHERSON – Tuesday at McPherson looked a lot like Saturday at Tabor for the Barton Community College women’s tennis team.
The lone win of the came at No. 1 singles where Daniela Sanz remained unbeaten on the season as the Cougars lost to the Bulldogs by an 8-1 count.
Sanz rolled to an easy 6-1, 6-0 win over Nikki Vorhees for the lone victory. Her doubles effort with Barbara Codognotto was not as successful though, at the tandem fell 8-5 to Nikki and Brooke Vorhees.
“Daniela continues to impress as she extends her singles unbeaten record to six matches,” Coach Lyle Stickney said. “I only wish she was as consistent in doubles as she is in singles.”
Codognotto lost her singles match to Brooke Vorhees losing 6-2 and 2-1 as she withdrew in the second set.
Rebecca Brining put up a good battle at No. 6 singles gain Chandlee Short before losing 6-2, 6-4.
“Becca is improving, she has had some close matches, but she needs to learn how to win the “big” points,” Coach Stickney said. “She has a difficult time closing out games.”
Brining and Stephanie Langer lost in No. 3 doubles to Short and Claire Crossman, 8-5. Langer also lost to Crossman at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-0.
At No. 2 doubles Karli Beck and Kelly Brauer were blanked by an 8-0 final, losing to Nadine Baquiran and Brittany Gourlay. Beck lost to Baquiran, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles and Brauer lost to Gourlay, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.
