Cougars hold on for 1-0 victory over Blue Devils

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — The Barton Community College men's soccer team protected a first-half goal for  a 1-0 victory over Kansas City Kansas on Sunday.  

The Cougars improve to 4-1-1 overall and 3-1 in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference play.

Blue Devils drop to 3-2, 2-2.

The Cougars got the game winner 19:50 before halftime courtesy of Ebuy Camara, assisted by Mariano Gelso. 

Sophomore goalkeeper Mauricio Vargas helped protect the slim lead, posting his fourth shutout of the season and 14th in his career, just one away from third place on Barton's all-time list.

 

Lady Cougars rally for 3-1 win

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — The Barton Community College women's soccer team came from behind on Sunday for a 3-1 win over Kansas City Kansas. 

The Lady Cougars improve to 4-2 overall and 4-0 in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference play.

The winless Lady Blue Devils took an early 1-0 lead 7:15 into the game.

In the second half, Barton freshman Catlin Simon scored her first goal of the season to tie the game up. 

Fellow freshman Ronnie Johnson also scored her first collegiate goal, taking a Bianca Barron pass to give Barton the 2-1 lead.

The Barron-Johnson combination connected again a couple minutes later, giving the Lady Cougars the eventual 3-1 victory. 

The Lady Cougars travel to Dodge City on Wednesday for a 1 p.m. game. The men's game follows the women's game.
