WINFIELD — The Barton Community College men’s golf team opened the 2013-14 season on Monday, finishing in third place in the first Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference meet of the season at Quail Ridge Golf Course.
It was the best placement at a conference meet for the Cougars since the 2005-06 season, in which they placed second at the fifth conference meet that season, held at Pratt Country Club.
Barton stood in fourth place after the first 18 holes, but moved up to third in the final 18 to score a 623.
Freshman Koby Beougher led the Cougars with an 11-over 155 to finish in 14th place.
Fellow freshman Landon Fox, a Winfield native, finished a stroke behind in 16th place, while sophomores Alex Hobelmann (157) and Jeremie Eloy (158) were close behind, finishing in 19th and 22nd places, respectively.
Freshman Zack Proffitt rounded out the Cougars, finishing 32nd at 165.
Sophomore Bryer Livermore competed as an individual, finishing in 53rd place at 194.
Barton will be back on the links for its second conference meet on Monday, Sept. 23, which will be held at Turkey Creek Golf Course in McPherson.
