Barton Community College’s men’s basketball team stomped Raleigh’s Prep Academy 108-75 on Saturday night to close out the Highland Hotel/Pizza Hut Classic at the Kirkman Activity Center.
The Cougars improve to 2-0 on the season.
Both teams started sluggish, but it was Barton that slowly pulled away early.
A free throw and a layup from Darius Gibson got things started for Barton, but a 3-pointer from Raleigh’s Jabar Ray evened things out.
The Cougars rattled off a 12-3 run, sparked by a basket from Gibson.
Isaac Williams drilled in a 3-pointer for the Cougars, but Shawn Bostic hit another 3-pointer for Raleigh.
Another 3 from Williams, who was 4-for-5 from 3-point range, put the Cougars ahead 11-6.
Josh Burdine got involved for Barton, sinking a basket and a pair of free throws for four points for a 15-6 lead.
Raleigh climbed back into it, closing the margin to 20-19 with less than 10 minutes remaining in the half.
It didn’t matter.
Trey Unrau and Deriece Parks started dropping in 3-pointers, and the Cougars finished the first half ahead 50-32.
Williams finished with 19 points.
Darius Gibson led the Cougars with 26 points and nine rebounds.
Tyler Corley and Deriece Parks finished with 13 points each, and Trey Unrau scored 10 points as the fifth Barton player in double figures.

Barton 81, Fort Scott 61
Barton opened the season with a 20-point win over Fort Scott on Friday evening.
Gibson headlined three Barton players in double figures. The sophomore guard finished with 28 points, going 10-for-11 from the free-throw line.
Raheem Johnson and Corley added 15 points apiece.
