CONCORDIA — The Barton Community College women’s basketball team held a lead throughout most of the first half, but Cloud County overcame them with 3:41 remaining before intermission.
The Lady Thunderbirds kept control throughout the second half to earn the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Western Division win.
Barton drops to 14-5 overall, 2-1 in the West, while Cloud County improves to 12-6, 3-0.
The Lady Cougars were coming off a 50-percent field-goal shooting performance on Wednesday against Dodge City, but couldn’t repeat that success.
Barton shot 34.4 percent (23-for-67) from the field.
The Lady Cougars were led by Cheyenne Hedrington, who finished with 18 points and nine rebounds.
Ashton Bruner scored 11 points.

CONCORDIA — Barton’s men’s basketball team relinquished a first-half lead on the road against Cloud County.
The Thunderbirds outscored the Cougars 53-37 in the second period for a 91-82 KJCCC West victory.
Barton’s Darius Gibson scored a game-high 29 points, going 12-for-13 from the free-throw line.
Tyler Corley added 19 points, and Raheem Johnson scored 16 points.
Johnson finished with nine rebounds, narrowly missing a double-double.
Barton hosts Seward County on Wednesday. The women’s game starts at 5:30 p.m., with the men’s game following at 7:30.
