The Great Bend Bat Cats have officially hit rock bottom. The Haysville Aviators completed a three-game sweep of the Bats Cats with an 11-7 Jayhawk League baseball victory Sunday. The Bat Cats contributed five errors that led to seven unearned runs.
Haysville (9-16) passed the Bat Cats (7-19 Jayhawk) for sixth place in the Jayhawk. The Bat Cats travel to Dodge City (12-10) Tuesday and return home Wednesday for a 5:30 twin bill against the Fort Collins Foxes.
Nick Urban-Michalak delivered three hits and the Bat Cats collected 13 hits.
Haysville’s Trevor Omahen singled home Nigel Williams and Damond Nixon for a 2-0 lead. Urban-Michalak’s double scored Andrew Schatz and Hunter Romero scored on a groundout for a 2-2 tie after four innings.
Haysville’s Williams and Byron Smith delivered RBI fifth-inning singles for a 4-2 lead. Chris Swanberg’s single scored Reece Johnson for a 4-3 score after five innings.
The Aviators scored five sixth-inning runs off reliever Austin Oblas. Campbell Quirk homered. Smith drilled a two-run single and Nixon added an RBI single. Nate Stolz scored on groundball for a 9-3 lead.
The Bats Cats battled within 9-6. Brendan Madsen delivered an RBI single to score Urban-Michalak. Andrew Schatz scored on an error. Urban-Michalak singled home Swanberg.
Aviators Zach Nogolski and Manny Garcia scored on eighth-inning errors. Swanberg singled home Reece Johnson for the Bat Cats’ final run.
