The Hoisington Cardinals celebrate a 2A quarterfinal victory over Garden Plain.

HOISINGTON 36, GARDEN PLAIN 7  — No. 3 state-ranked Hoisington was paced by quarterback Mason Martin with a pair of touchdown passes and two touchdown runs in a dominating 36-7 victory over Garden Plain in Friday's 2A state football quarterfinal showdown.

Martin scored on a 4-yard touchdown run and Morales scored on a 1-yard run for a 14-0 lead after a 2-pointer from Morales to Brody Pfannenstiel. Garden Plain quarterback Eli Eck responded with a 5-yard touchdown pass to Carter Baker.

Hoisington's Brody Pfannenstiel delivered the game's signature play with a 61-yard touchdown reception, somehow working wide open down the field for a 20-7 halftime lead.

Martin continued to deliver with an 8-yard touchdown run and a 17-yard touchdown pass to Carson Mason. The Cardinals converted both extra points. Morales delivered a 2-point pass to Martin. A dazzling C.J. Bryant escaped pressure for a conversion pass to Corbyn Holinde. Morales rushed for 98 yards. Martin passed for 121 yards with Pfannenstiel had 93 yards receiving.

Once again, the Cardinals' offensive line of Brody Corbett, Layton Hoffman, Karson Kinman, Leyton Mooney, Colin Mater and Holinde paved the way for 218 yards on 48 carries.

The Cardinals (10-0) travel to Gypsum to face unbeaten defending 2A state champion Southeast Saline (11-0) next week's 2A semifinal. Hoisington and Southeast Saline will battle for the fourth consecutive season.
