LARNED — Nathan Chlumsky, a third-degree black belt intructor in Karate and Kobujutsu Ancient Weaponry in Larned, held the Battle On The Plains 2 Kansas National Open Martial Arts Championship at the Larned High School on Saturday.
“I had many great competitors compete from different parts of Kansas, including Salina, and competitors (from) as far as Texas,” Chlumsky said. “Eighth-degree black belt Steve Warren was also present to help judge (the event) which meant a lot that he was willing to drive 10 hours from Texas to lend his support.”
Shelby Murray, a 9-year-old from Salina, took home first place and $500 by winning six trophies. Michael Burpee took home five trophies, which was good enough for second place and $300 of prize money. Mariah Garman-Brown took third place with four trophies to win $150.
Locally, Katie Alnore, of Larned, took home first and third pace trophies. Jenny Alnore won a second place trophy and Micael Alnore won a first place trophy. Erin Seever of Great Bend left the championship with a second place trophy.
