Larned Legion sweeps Great Bend Braves

Great Bend baserunner Sage Koelsch (34) is out as Larned 1B Logan Erway completes a double play in Tuesday's baseball doubleheader.

LARNED — Larned’s Jack Stelter scored the game-winning run on Carlos Ibarra’s groundball for an 11-10 baseball victory over the Great Bend Braves Legion baseball team Tuesday. Larned won the opener 9-1. The Braves travel to the Ottawa Tournament starting Friday.

LARNED 9, GREAT BEND 1 (G1) — Larned pitcher Aidan Smyth fashioned a two-hitter with six strikeouts to overpower the Braves’ lineup.

Jack Stelter singled home Smyth and Stelter scored on Colin LaBouchardiere’s sacrifice fly for a 2-0 first-inning lead. Jade Poe scored the Braves’ second-inning run on an error.

Jacob Grosfield doubled home Logan Erway and Kaden Pontius off reliever Paco Hernandez for a 4-1 lead after five innings.

Larned scored five sixth-inning runs, thanks to three walks and a hit batter. Erway singled home Luke Wilson. Smyth, Mello Bryant and Erway scored on wild pitches. Pontius scored on a sacrifice fly by Gunnar Cline for a 9-1 run-rule victory.

LARNED 11, GREAT BEND 10 (G2) — Larned rallied from a 6-0 deficit with a walkoff victory when Ibarra’s groundball scored Stelter for the game-winning fifth-inning run.  

Great Bend’s Jade Poe, Paco Hernandez and Stefan Spray each drove home two runs. Larned’s Aidan Smyth drove home three runs.

Hernandez scored the Braves’ first run on an error. Brad Beck’s single scored Sage Koelsch to ignite a five-run third inning. Chayse Gruber scored on a groundout. Beck scored on an error. Spray’s double scored Joseph Moeder and Hernandez for a 6-0 lead.  

Larned scored nine third-inning runs, thanks to six walks and two errors. Smyth scored on an error. Bryant scored on Stelter’s double. Stelter, Ibarra and Grosfield scored on bases-loaded walks. Cline and Erway scored on Smyth’s single.  Dillan Smith scored on an error. Smyth scored on a wild pitch for a 9-6 lead.

The Braves scored four fourth-inning runs for a 10-9 lead. Brody Feist scored on a walk. Gruber scored on Joseph Moeder’s sacrifice fly. Beck and Poe scored on Hernandez’s single for a 10-9 lead.

Larned’s Ibarra scored on a hit batter for a 10-10 tie. Stelter walked and Pontius singled to set up Ibarra’s game-ending groundball.
