The Great Bend High School girls’ tennis team battled wind, rain and five other teams to finish second at the varsity tournament on Tuesday at Veterans Memorial Park.
The Lady Panthers were led by the No. 1 doubles duo of Morgan Francis and Macy Moyers, who went 4-0 to place first in their division.
“Overall, we made some great improvements today,” GBHS head coach Shannon Schartz said. “Our No. 1 doubles team played their usual power tennis. The other players made some great improvements.”
Rebecca Dawson placed fifth in the No. 1 singles division, which had two state qualifiers in it. She went 1-2 on the day.
At No. 2 singles, Addisoin Westhoff placed third at 3-1.
Taylor Huslig and Carly Boyd combined as the No. 2 doubles team. They went 3-1 on the day and finished in second place.
Great Bend will host an Invitational on Saturday at Veterans Memorial.
“We had eight teams and there was some good competition,” Schartz said. “We did well against the (Western Athletic Conference) teams. We’ll get to see the rest of the WAC on Saturday.”
