Ellinwood girls win Sterling Invitational

STERLING — Ellinwood High School’s girls’ cross-country team won the Sterling Invitational on Saturday.
Led by Joanna Strecker, who finished in fourth place with a time of 15:52.81, the Lady Eagles finished with 26 points.
Ellinwood had three girls in the top 10.
The Eagles didn’t have enough runners to field a full team.
Morgan Feemster, competing as one of three individuals from Ellinwood in the boys’ competition, placed second with a time of 16:43.97.
The other two runners narrowly missed the top 10 at 12th and 13th places.

HAYS — Sylvan Grove’s Legion baseball team rallied for a 5-4 victory over Ellinwood on Colin Obermueller’s game-winning single in Wednesday’s AA Russell Zone baseball tournament. The game was moved to Hays from Russell because of a unplayable field.Ellinwood (9-10) plays Thursday against the Marysville-Smith Center loser.Ellinwood led 4-1 after 41/2 innings. Sylvan Grove led 1-0 when Dylan Fry scored a first-inning run.Ellinwood’s Levi Swenson scored a second-inning run on a double steal with Evan Johanning.
