GBHS travels to Garden tonight to open WAC play

Great Bend High School embarks on Western Athletic Conference-opening play tonight, when the Panthers travel out west to take on Garden City.
The girls game starts at 6, followed by the boys game.
While the Lady Panthers are 1-5, Great Bend’s boys take a 3-3 overall mark into the WAC opener.
Garden City’s boys (1-5) were drubbed by defending conference champion Dodge City on Tuesday night, 49-18. The Buffaloes’ lone victory came at the season-opening Hays City Shoot-Out, a 52-38 triumph over Colby. Great Bend also beat Colby in the Shoot-Out, 48-26, and went on to take second place.
Garden City’s girls are 3-3. The Lady Buffs took defending WAC champion Dodge City down to the wire before falling 34-28 on Tuesday.
Both GBHS teams are coming off road losses to state-ranked McPherson on Tuesday. Prior to the holiday break, both teams also lost to 6A Manhattan High.
McPherson’s girls, ranked No. 7 in Class 5A in the latest Kansas Basketball Coaches Association poll, defeated the Lady Panthers 67-42. Top-ranked McPherson’s boys toppled Great Bend 75-43.
