HOISINGTON 40, LYONS 7
LYONS -- Steffan Dolechek scored three touchdowns and Hunter Hanzlick scored two touchdowns as Hoisington steamed past Lyons 40-7 to cruise into the Class 3A football playoffs.
The Cardinals (9-0, 3-0) will play Cimarron at home Tuesday in the Class 3A playoffs. Lyons (3-6) will travel to Scott City (9-0) Tuesday.
Dolechek scored on a 3-and 8-yard runs and caught a 16-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Tyler Specht.
Hanzlick scored on touchdowns of 32 and 67 yards and rushed for 174 yards on eight carries. Hanzlick has rushed for 1,537 yards and 20 touchdowns.Rudy Gearhart also scored a Cardinal touchown. The Cardinals rushed for 379 yards and gained 70 yards in the air.
The Cardinals led 40-0 at halftime.
The teams paid pregame and postgame tribute to Lyons High football starter Dylon Pavlus-Newill, who died Tuesday in a house fire. The teams wore stickers with Newill's number on their helmets.
