HOISINGTON — The Hoisington wrestling team took first at its own Cardinal Classic on Friday night.
The Cardinals finished with 181 points, giving it a 47-point cushion between them and second-place Thomas More Prep-Marion.
Stafford took seventh place with 50 points.
The Cardinals were led by Dalton Bell (145-pound weight class), Eric Hellerud (171), Cody Batt (189) and Ethan Soeken (215), who each took first place in their respective weight classes.
Bell and Soeken were among the seniors recognized during senior night.
“The Cardinals looked impressive versus the competition presented to them at the tournament as the posted a very decisive team score,” Hoisington head coach Dan Schmidt said. “Over all the team had 6 out of 11 participants in the finals with four taking home first-place medals.”
Zach Sanders took home a second-place medal and the Cardinals had three others finish in third place.
The Trojans were represented by five wrestlers, led by Ross Harris, who claimed the top prize in the 112 division.
Jacob Morris took third place in the 145 weight class for Stafford, and the three other Stafford wrestlers finished in fifth.
