It will be top-seeded Olathe South pitted against No. 8 seed Great Bend this afternoon.
The two high school girls basketball teams will meet at 5:30 in an opening-round game of the Glacier’s Edge tournament at Emporia High School in Emporia. The game will be played in the main gymnasium.
Olathe South, which won the 2010 Class 6A state championship in Emporia, comes into the game ranked No. 2 in 6A behind defending state champion Wichita Heights in the latest Kansas Basketball Coaches Association poll released on Monday.
The Steve Ingram-coached Lady Falcons are currently 8-0 on the season, and no one has come close to them.
Olathe South has beaten Wyandotte, 48-14;  Lawrence, 57-42; Olathe North, 69-40; Lincoln College Prep, 71-50; Olathe East, 57-42;  Sumner Academy, 82-17; and Leavenworth (twice) 67-44 and 87-43.
Great Bend is coming off its first win of the season after losing its first nine games.
The Lady Panthers traveled to Larned on Tuesday, Jan. 17, and defeated the host school 24-20.
Other first-round games include No. 3 seed Maize vs. No. 6 seed Wichita Northwest at 5:30 p.m. in the junior varsity gymnasium, followed by No. 2 seed Highland Park vs. No. 7 seed Shawnee Heights at 7.
Host Emporia, the No. 5 seed, takes on No. 4 seed Hutchinson at 7 in the main gym after the Great Bend-Olathe South game.
