Jacy Quade will be trying to build on personal-best performances today when Great Bend High School hosts the Great Bend Invitational at Memorial Stadium.
In the only meet thus far in the 2012 track and field season for GBHS, the Junction City Invitational on Friday, March 30, Quade registered first-place finishes in the shot put (38 feet, 10 inches) and the discus (130-3), her best marks ever.
Moreover, her discus distance was also a JCHS invite record.
And that’s a good sign for the senior, who has nearly a full season ahead of her to build on those throws.
“She did exceptionally well and has really picked up where she left off last year,” said GBHS head coach Bo Black of Quade, who last season was a fourth-place finisher in the discus and took fifth in the shot put during the Class 5A portion of the state track and field championships in Wichita. “She continues to improve and is a hard-working young lady.
“She has been very, very successful for us in the shot and discus over the years and we’re expecting her to continue to flourish. Cliff Burt has done a great job working with her.”
Dodge City, Hutchinson, Hoisington and Liberal join Great Bend in today’s meet. The invite starts at 2:30 with the javelin competition, followed by the field events at 3:30 and the track events at 4.
