ST. JOHN — The St. John High School girls’ basketball team held a 30-15 lead at halftime.
Victoria never made up ground on Friday night as St. John won 60-27.
“I thought we played pretty well,” St. John head coach Danny Smith said. “We shot 50 percent on the night. We ran the floor well. We defended well. We fouled too much, but we scored 40 points in the paint, so you’re going to shoot well when you’re taking those kind of shots.”
The Lady Tigers (14-1), who are ranked No. 1 in Class 1A Division I in the latest Kansas Basketball Coaches Association poll, were led by senior Teresa Wade, who scored 18 points.
Teresa Christie added 15 points.
“We had a lot of girls who don’t usually score that much for us really produce, which was great to see,” Smith said. “We’re still trying to get healthy. We’ve got a couple of girls who are out with knee injuries right now, but it’s great that we have some kids who can step up and play solid for us even when we’re down a two or three players.”
St. John travels to Kinsley on Monday night for a make-up game.
