HOISINGTON – Mason Alderdice sparked Hoisington past Larned with a pair of touchdowns and an interception in a 34-6 District football victory over Larned.

Alderdice raced 75 yards for the game’s opening touchdown and clinched the victory on a 42-yard run with 57 seconds left in the game. He rushed for 116 yards on four carries.

Hoisington led 20-6 with the intent to run out the final minute. Larned’s timeout backfired when Mason Alderice broke loose for a 42-yard touchdown run with 57 seconds remaining.

Following Alderdice’s second touchdown, Hoisington’s Kyler Russell scored on a 5-yard interception return with 28 seconds remaining when Stevenson’s pressure forced an interception against Larned’s Shaver for a 34-6 lead with 28 seconds remaining.

Hoisington (7-0, 3-0 District) clinches District 7 heading to Cimarron. Larned (5-2, 2-1) plays Lakin (4-3, 2-1) at home Friday with a home playoff game at stake.

After an opening touchdown, Hoisington’s Brayden Stevenson blocked a Larned punt near midfield and rumbled to the 11-yard line. Carson Mason scored on a 7-yard pass for a 12-0 halftime lead.

“We needed Brayden to dominate. He played well,” said Hoisington coach Zach Baird. “Brayden is a talented football player. He’s a strong athletic kid.”

Larned quarterback Shaver sprinted 47 yards on a scramble for a touchdown for a 12-6 score with 9:29 in the third period.

The Cardinals answered with a 19-yard touchdown pass from Tony Moore to Mason Martin after a 40-yard Teron Kraft run. Kraft converted a 2-point conversion for a 20-6 lead.

“Hoisington is a very good ball club but we are pretty good too,” said Larned coach Brady Keith. “Our defense played well except for a couple of big plays. Offensively we took take what they gave us. They were focused on stopping Luke Fischer. We countered with other things. It was a couple of hard-hitting teams.”

The Hoisington defense focused on shutting down Luke Fischer. Hoisington shut down Luke Fischer to 49 yards after he averaged 155 yards the first six games. Shaver gained 75 yards as the Indians gained 159 yards rushing and 29 yards passing.

“We fit our defense and got multiple hats to the football,” Baird said. “We did a nice job playing physical. Our guys played hard.”

The Larned defense held Hoisington to 207 yards. Alderice gained 116 yards. Fischer contributed four tackles and eight assists.

Cardinals Gage Britt and Brady Reif replaced missing offensive linemen Xavier Chambers and Kaiden Hoffman.

“We played without two offensive linemen,” Baird said. “But if you’re a competitor, you want those kinds of challenges.”

Hoisington’s Ian Smith contributed four tackles and six assists. Stevenson had four tackles and five assists.
