NO. 5 NORTH CAROLINA 100, ELON 82
     CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Tyler Zeller had 19 points and 13 rebounds to help fifth-ranked North Carolina routed Elon.
     Harrison Barnes added 18 points for the Tar Heels (12-2), who blew the game open with a dominating 23-0 run midway through the first half. North Carolina led 53-19 by halftime then pushed the margin to as many as 50 points after the break.
North Carolina won its 25th straight game in the Smith Center to tie the record for its longest winning streak in the nearly 26-year-old campus arena. That home winning streak is tied for third-longest in program history.
     Sebastian Koch scored 17 points for the Phoenix (7-5), who lost their third straight game and remained winless against ranked opponents since entering Division I competition a dozen years ago. Elon shot just 33 percent, including 7 for 28 from three-point range.
 
RUTGERS 85, NO. 10 FLORIDA 83, 2OT
     PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Freshman Eli Carter scored a career-high 31 points and hit the go-ahead basket in the second overtime as Rutgers rallied to stun Florida.
     The Scarlet Knights (8-5) came back from a seven-point deficit late in regulation and Carter hit a late 3-pointer in the first overtime to put the Scarlet Knights in position for their biggest win since knocking off No. 9 Villanova at home last season.
     Erving Walker had a chance to tie the game for the Gators (11-2) in the final seconds, but his off-balance attempt from the foul line hit off the rim.
     Kenny Boynton had 26 points for Florida, which snapped a five-game win streak.

VANDERBILT 74, NO. 14 MARQUETTE 57
     MILWAUKEE — Jeffery Taylor scored 19 points to help Vanderbilt steamroll Marquette for the Commodores’ first win in three games against ranked opponents this season.
     John Jenkins added 14 points, and Lance Goulbourne had 13 points and 16 rebounds for the Commodores (9-4), who were ranked No. 25 just a few weeks ago.
     Jae Crowder scored 16 points on 4-of-13 shooting for the Golden Eagles (11-2), who shot a season-low 32.2 percent from the field.
     Vanderbilt came in with a 0-2 mark against ranked teams this season, with losses to Xavier and Louisville — both in overtime.

NO. 18 MICHIGAN 71, PENN STATE 53
     ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 26 points, and Trey Burke added 13 points and seven assists to lead Michigan over Penn State in the Big Ten opener for both teams.
     Evan Smotrycz chipped in 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Wolverines (11-2, 1-0), who have won six straight since losing to Virginia in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. Michigan won its conference opener for the first time in coach John Beilein’s five seasons.
     Tim Frazier had 20 points and four assists for Penn State (8-6, 0-1), but the rest of the team combined for just two assists and eight turnovers. The Nittany Lions have dropped four of their last six.

NO. 24 HARVARD 67, BOSTON COLLEGE 46
     BOSTON — Reserve Laurent Rivard scored 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting to help give Harvard over Boston College.
     Corbin Miller scored 12 points, Brandyn Curry 11 and Christian Webster 10 for the Crimson (11-1). It was the fourth straight season Harvard has beaten BC on the Eagles’ home court.
