• WHAT’S AT STAKE
The Sooners already have fallen short of expectations this season, so a loss to Kansas would be devastating. The Jayhawks nearly knocked off No. 5 TCU last week but lost 34-30. A win over Oklahoma could be the start of a change in direction for the program.

• KEY MATCHUP
Oklahoma’s power running game vs. Kansas defensive front: Oklahoma has at times been hesitant to focus on its power running game, but when the Sooners have done so, they’ve been hard to stop. Oklahoma ran for 510 yards and five touchdowns against Iowa State and 384 yards and five scores against Texas Tech. Oklahoma leads the Big 12 in rushing, while Kansas is in the bottom half of the conference in rushing defense.

• PLAYERS TO WATCH
Kansas: LB Ben Heeney. The senior leads the Big 12 in tackles with 11.2 per game and has 10 tackles for loss. He will be tested by the Oklahoma run game, featuring 243-pound bruiser Samaje Perine.
Oklahoma: QB Cody Thomas. Oklahoma’s freshman signal caller won his first start last week against Texas Tech after passing for 133 yards and running for 103. He should be better this week if star receiver Sterling Shepard has recovered from a groin injury.
