The Extension Council Appreciation award is presented every year at our annual meeting in December to an individual or a couple who have given additional support and time to the Barton County Extension Council Educational programs. In many cases, their hard work and dedication has lightened the load for the Extension Service personal, in addition to making the Extension Council efforts more effective. The success of Extension programs depends on the unselfish energy of such people who have spent considerable time supporting our endeavors for no monetary rewards.
This year, the honoree was Jerry Morgenstern from Hoisington.
Jerry has served on the Agriculture and Natural Resources program development committee for Barton County K-State Research and Extension several times over the years. His assistance and advice have been integral to the success of the Agriculture Education programming in the County. He has assisted in finding producers that have been willing to plant demonstration plots on their land, as well as hosting a sorghum plot this year on land off the highway for ultimate visibility. He has worked with Extension on teaching a portion of the annual Tractor Safety for several years, and is always the first to speak up about needed programs for the area. Without Jerry assisting in any way he could, we would not be able to effectively do the job we are able to do.
I know that since I started as the Ag and Natural Resources agent in 2013, Jerry has been a steadfast presence that I know supports Extension programming, and does everything in his abilities to help them succeed in the county. Without Jerry, and people in our communities like him, KSRE would not be as successful as it is. Thank you Jerry for all that you do!
