Happy New Year!!
Now that Christmas has past, many of you are feeling relief, while others are sad that the holiday “good feelings” are beginning to fade, it is time to turn to 2014. With the New year comes making resolutions and trying to stick to them.
I have made one resolution I would like to share with you, in the New Year I am going to make an effort to take full advantage of the many learning opportunities that are available thru K-State Research and Extension and to share those same opportunities to others in the area as well.
One way KSRE brings the university to the people is by making their many specialists available to the county offices by request. I currently have several programs in the works but, the one I would like to talk about today is coming up in a few weeks.
On Wednesday Jan. 15 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. here at the Extension Office, I have Dorivar Ruiz-Diaz coming to speak about soil fertility and alternative fertilizers.
The three hour program will go over several topics to help you get the most from you soil for optimum crop production. Some of these topics will include:
• Soil sampling and testing
• Products, application time, and methods
• Micro and secondary nutrients
• Phosphorus Management
I know many of you have brought up Micro Nutrients, and correct soil tests are vital to knowing the available nutrients in your soil. This can help save money by applying only what you need for optimum performance. Whether this is an update for your farm, or you are looking into a more technical approach to farming with the new fertilizers, this program will give you the information that can help to improve your farm production.
A minimum of ten people are required for the program to happen, so please RSVP to the Extension office (620-793-1910) no later than Monday Jan. 13 to insure your spot.
I am looking forward to seeing you all on January 15th!
